Payments In Lieu of Taxes
Some organizations in Fitchburg - like colleges, hospitals, or housing authorities - don't have to pay property tax. Some of them make a voluntary payment to the city anyway, and this is that money.
This ticked down just slightly to $124,000 this year, about less than 1% less than the $125,000 it was in FY2025. Put another way: back in FY2017 this made up about 2.6% of Local Receipts - today it's under 1%, a smaller slice than before.
