Assessment - Charter School Sending Tuition
When a Fitchburg kid attends a charter school instead of a Fitchburg public school, the city has to pay that charter school tuition. This is the single biggest bill on the whole assessments list, and the state only pays back part of it (see the reimbursement line under State Aid — Education).
The size of this charge rose to $4,842,902 this year, about 10% more than the $4,399,023 it was in FY2025. Put another way: back in FY2019 this made up about 45.7% of State Assessments - today it's 54.2%, a bigger slice than before.
