Assessment - RMV Non-Renewal Surcharge
If you owe unpaid car excise tax, the city can ask the state's Registry of Motor Vehicles to block you from renewing your license or registration until you pay up. This is a fee the city pays the state each time it uses that tool.
The size of this charge rose to $92,120 this year, about 11% more than the $82,680 it was in FY2025.
